According to the IMRG Capgemini Index Special 9th Anniversary Report Online retail has grown in sales by 5,000% in the last nine years!
Consumers in the UK have spent over £200 billion online after the launch of the 2000 retail index, rising from £0.8 billion in 2000 to an estimated £43.8 billion last year.
In comparison to the ONS Retail sales Index, the measurement for UK store sales, showing growth of just over 20% this reflects a huge swing to online shopping.
Surprisingly for some, who doubted that people would buy online without trying items on, the clothing sector has shown the highest growth and continues to outperform all other sectors, although the electricals sector over the past 4 years has shown nearly 900% in growth.
