Background

Education Mutual came to us with an outdated and awkward website that was difficult to navigate with no apparent structure or user navigation.

Initially, we sat down with them and mapped out a plan for designing and developing their new website. We discussed the different phases we would take from the initial discussion and strategy to design and development, the marketing plan, and beyond.

Strategy

We checked in with the client throughout each stage to ensure we remained on-brand and stuck to the initial brief.

We started by designing a wireframe of the new website, giving the client early access to work with us on the direction of the new website as we made changes along the way.

Once the wireframe was agreed upon, we started designing the website and had a quick turnaround.

Results

Since we launched the site, traffic has increased, enquiries have doubled, and the client has mentioned how they’re no longer ashamed to have school admins visit their website!

The next stage will be to continue with our phased approach by running paid traffic to the website to increase conversions and enquiries.

What Does This Mean?

At this moment, Google is improving the Phrase and Exact match types to be a little broader with how they trigger search terms.

One thing is sure Phrase will somewhat “replace” the broad match modifier match type with Exact having close variants and having a bit more wiggle room with the search terms they trigger.

How does it Impact Us?

We see this as a positive change. Having four different match types to contend with can be pretty exhausting management, having to assess search terms for each match type, control the keyword bids, and improve quality scores.

Not only the slightly reduced workload for management of our clients, but it also will be interesting to see what impact this has on the search terms report.

For us, we’ll be going through all our client accounts and making the changes from broad match modified to phrase match to make sure we don’t lose any data and keep important keywords running.

Interestingly, Google is starting to emphasise page and user experience much more. This is something we’ve been imprinting in the websites we design for years and continue to do so. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Google taking note of the crucial aspects of a website from a more technical perspective, as opposed to putting the majority of time into their SEO and PPC channels.

As always, we’ll follow Google’s guidelines and best practices to ensure all our clients comply with Core Web Vitals.

Although this is something we’ve done for years anyway, it’s making sure we follow and fall in line with Google’s advice and direction.

People like blogs, they like blogs because they are written by people and not corporations. People want to know what people think, crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible.

2. Link like crazy.

Support your post with links to other web pages that are contextual to your post.

3. Write Less

Give the maximum amount of information with the least amount of words. Time is finite and people are infinitely busy. Blast your knowledge into the reader at the speed of sound.

4. 250 is enough

A long post is easier to forget and harder to get into. A short post is the opposite.

5. Make Headlines snappy

Contain your whole argument in your headline. Check out National newspapers to see how they do it.

6. Include bullet point lists

We all love lists, it structures the info in an easily digestible format.

7. Make your posts easy to scan

Every few paragraphs insert a sub heading. Make sentences and headlines short and to the point.

8. Be consistent with your style

People like to know what to expect, once you have settled on a style for your audience stick to it.

9. Litter the post with Keywords.

Think about what keywords people would use to search for your post and include them in the body text and headers. make sure the keyword placement is natural and does not seem out of place.

10. Edit your post

Good writing is in the editing. Before you hit the submit button, re-read your post and cut out the stuff that you don’t need.
