1. Be Specific

– It is true that short generic keywords will get your ad’s seen more, but not necessarily by people looking for your products. Generic search terms make it more likely people will click through the ad mistakenly looking for another brand or without reading the ad fully, this will impact your bounce rate and conversion rates. Being more specific or using long tail keywords will help people find you who are specifically looking for your business and products.

2. Think Like Your Audience

– Consider what terms or phrases would people who want your products be searching for? It’s a great idea to use your own branding terms as these are likely to be less competitive and the people who are searching these are definitely going to be looking for your company/products.

3. Use The Tools Available

– Utilize tools like Adwords Planner or Keyword Everywhere to get ideas for keywords and to see what’s going to work the best for you. These tools will help you figure out the balance of how competitive a keyword is vs how many searches it gets. Ranking for a highly competitive keyword is difficult and usually very expensive, but often bidding on less competitive terms will mean lower search rates.

4. Scope Out the Competition

– Look into what your main competitors are ranking for or targeting. This can not only expand your list of potential keywords, as there may be some you’re overlooking. But most importantly it’ll show you what’s working in the industry at the moment.

5. Understand Match type

– Use the match type keywords to your advantage.
• Broad Match – these will give your ads the most impressions as it will include any word in your phrase, misspelt terms or synonyms of your keywords
• Phrase Match – your ad will show for any search that includes your phrase anywhere in the search
• Exact Match – This will show your Ad only when your exact keyword is used or a very close variant.
• Broad Match Modified – this will show your ad for searches that include all of the phrase but in any order.

Social media is a crucial tool these days to connect with your audience and reach new customers. We all know the value of good social media marketing. But here are some great basic tips for anyone struggling to get their socials off the ground.

1 Less is More with Social Media Marketing

A common mistake is overdoing your social marketing. Don’t overload your page with content, this is a sure way to make people unfollow or unlike. Instead, be consistent about posting daily and make sure the content you do write is quality. This will earn you so much more of a following than if you spam your audience with too many posts they don’t want to see.

2 Know Your Target Audience

Understanding your audience is key, then you will know how to talk to them and what they want to see. Study the data you get from Facebooks metrics to see who your audience is. Try different methods of interacting and different content and see what gets the best results with your specific following.

3 Post for Your Target Audience

Now you understand your audience, focus your content on what they would want to see. Rather than reposting graphics or clickbait content found on the web somewhere, which is what so many pages do. This type of content isn’t personal to your brand and doesn’t represent your business. Your audience won’t engage with this type of content. Find a good balance between promoting products and posting interesting content.

4 Prioritise

If you get more interaction and interest on Facebook than on Twitter for example, then focus on Facebook more. Many people make the mistake of putting more time into a platform that is underperforming. But the main thing is to focus on the places where you are engaging with customers, and then developing this engagement into fans, or purchases, by building a loyal following.

5 DO NOT Buy Likes

We all know how tempting this is! But don’t, this ruins your demographics data, the likes are not from real people but bots, who definitely won’t be interested in your content or products. Your engagement rate will be terrible, as these bots don’t interact, and Facebook has an algorithm that looks at your engagement rates and is less likely to show your post if it’s bad. Instead spend the money on buying ads so that you can reach real people, real people that may just be looking for a page like yours.

6 Promoting a Post

Knowing which posts to promote can be tricky, you can’t choose just any post to boost. Choosing a promotion post of a popular item or a competition for free products is always great, as it not only introduces new people to your brand it gives them an introductory offer on your products. The main things to consider are what would someone seeing this for the first time think about your brand; how do you come across, and will this post appeal to people who have never heard of you.

7 Listen to Feedback

Finally, listen to comments and feedback from followers, see if they have any suggestions for improvements and what’s not working or hear if they are enjoying your content. Interact with customers on social media and build up relationships.

On May 25th, 2018 there will be new EU laws for data protection online, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will ensure that all data protection laws across Europe are standardised and will avoid the confusion of different countries having different regulations.

What will this mean for companies? Primarily how you get someone’s information and what you’re allowed to do with it will be what changes. The main thing to keep in mind is the ‘subscriber rights’ as long as you don’t break any of these you will avoid the up to €10 million in fines!

Subscribers rights you must adhere too:
• Right to be forgotten: An individual may request that an organization delete all data on that individual without undue delay
• Right to object: An individual may prohibit certain data uses
• Right to rectification: Individuals may request that incomplete data be completed or that incorrect data be corrected
• Right of access: Individuals have the right to know what data about them is being processed and how
• Right of portability: Individuals may request that personal data held by one organization be transported to another.

What changes should you make to your site?
You will need to obtain consent from your subscribers and contacts for every usage of their personal data, the surest route to compliance is to obtain explicit consent. All sign up forms on your site must now be opt-in, even at checkouts. On each of these forms to make sure that language in the sign-up confirmation, is specific, and covers all possible reasons for using the information being solicited. Be very specific about the intended use of the information and how you will process it. You must also keep records of the consent given. On your emails, there should be easily accessible “unsubscribe” and “preferences” footer options so your subscribers can change consent as they wish. Finally, you must inform visitors to your page about any cookies you have running.

What should you do with Existing client data?
You must ask people to resubscribe, unless you have proof they did so knowingly and according to GDPR guidelines. Maybe offer an incentive to get people to resubscribe if you can, something like a Discount code or free shipping on an order. Any emails who have not resubscribed by the 25th must be deleted and you must stop contacting them or face a fine of up to €10 million.

One of the most common questions that we get asked here at Eventure is “How much should my business spend on on PPC?” We would like to say that there is a definitive answer, but that would be far too easy! There are a few ways of cutting the cloth when it comes to billing for PPC work, so as guide for those who are struggling here is a list of common pricing methods and the pros and cons to each approach.

Percentage of Spend

You typically will pay the agency a fixed percentage of whatever it is your spending on adverts. Often this is around 10% – so if you’re spending £10,000 a month, you’re being billed £1,000 on top.

Pros – Your bill reflects the size of the account.

Cons – There is an incentive to increase your spend, regardless of the merits.

Percentage of Sales

Like the percentage of spend, you pay based on the percentage of revenue driven by your adverts.

Pros – You are only paying for adverts that are directly generating sales.

Cons – Attributing sales accurately to first click is between difficult and impossible and you’re likely to overlook important top of the funnel opportunities.

Baseline

The agency runs the campaign without any changes being made for a period of time. From thereon in, they take a cut depending upon an agreed improvement in specific metrics, typically Cost Per Click.

Pros – It’s sounds great so you feel good when you sign the contract.

Cons – The agency tends to concentrate on specific metrics, rather than performance and your business. If they make just a small improvement in month one, they don’t then have to do anything else whilst still they get paid.

Fixed Fee

You pay X amount a month and the agency runs you’re PPC activity. Usually the bigger the size of the account (either in spend or in keywords) the more you pay.

Pros – It’s a fixed fee which is good for planning and the agency is able to concentrate on doing the best they can without perverse billing incentives.

Cons – It’s difficult to understand just what is being done – an agency can easily do nothing month to month and still get paid.

Hourly Rate

You pay based on how much time has been spent managing your account. Usually that means the bigger the account, the more work is needed (and thus billing is higher).

Pros – You only spend money when work is being done. And like a fixed fee, there are no perversion of incentive for doing a good job.

Cons – There are no guarantees that the work being done is helping. Doing work for the sake of it won’t help you to sell more but will create costs.

We’re so pleased to announce the launch of the new Tiger Milly website design. Tiger Milly is a fun project which we love working on, just as much as their customers love shopping on the E-Commerce site which offers users 50’s inspired women’s clothing.

Our design, development and marketing departments have been busy and we’re delighted with the brand new look of the website. Highly stylised page designs with stunning product imagery all ties in well with their branding. This all helps in developing a striking and consistent look and feel which extends beyond their website and into the social media platforms.

Here’s what the CEO of Tiger Milly had to say:

Being Google AdWords Certified can be a bit pesky at times, especially with the constant changing of expectations, but it’s no match for us as we’ve battled the tests and come on top once again. If you’re not as nerdy as us then this might not sound as exciting but apart from the certificate on our office wall, let me explain what being certified means.

An AdWords certification allows individuals to demonstrate that Google recognises then as an online advertising professional. You can only receive this accreditation after successfully passing the AdWords Fundamentals exam and either the Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Mobile Advertising, Video Advertising or Shopping Advertising exam administered by Google Partners.

There are several benefits to being accredited such as:

Validate your expertise – Ideal for showing current and prospective clients that you’re a certified online advertising specialist with a personalised certificate. A Google Partners public profile page listing your certifications will also be made available.

Help achieve your Google Partner badge – Agencies need at least one of their team members to be AdWords certified in order to achieve a Google Partner badge.

Appearing in Google’s Certified Partner Listing – Google have now made it even easier to see what trustworthy certified partners are available in your post code range. Now if you’re looking for a company in Nottingham who knows their stuff when it comes to advertising, marketing and Google we’ll show up!

Satisfaction of being recognised – It’s OK to say you can do something but it’s not quite as good as being certified.

By being Google Adwords Certified you can put your trust in us when we say we know how to handle your AdWords account. Within our Marketing department we have years of knowledge working with Google to achieve the best results for our clients so they don’t fall at the many hurdles Google throws at them.

Facebook still maybe a key player when it comes to a marketing strategy but there’s an app lurking in the background ready to take the throne. No, it’s not new but the days of this app being used by the selfie generation has developed into a game changer for every business. Click download and welcome Instagram into your marketing portfolio.

We’ll be taking a look at:

• Instagram – What is it?
• Why will Instagram be good for your marketing?
• No nonsense advertising
• How Instagram will work for your business

Instagram – What is it?

Instagram sells itself as:

“… a simple way to capture and share the world’s moments. Transform your everyday photos and videos into works of art and share them with your family and friends.”

Available on all devices, this app is quick and easy to use. Setting up an account can take as little as 60 seconds, with inbuilt features that can access your camera and gallery with a few simple clicks.

Why will Instagram be good for your marketing?

“A picture is worth a thousand words”

Remember that bit where I mentioned the selfie generation? A picture of a celebrity holding a product, a blogger snapping an outfit, an image of some new stock; these picture have at least one thing in common, they are likeable. Visual marketing is something that people will never lose interest in, images and videos are instant and can provoke emotions far quicker than words.

Here is a good example how the same post can have two very different results when uploaded to Instagram and Facebook.

Case A is Instagram and B is Facebook, there are many differences between the two posts including one displaying text below and the other above. Instagram has received the better social result in this example, you can clearly see what the picture is of and the caption polishes off the post nicely with a very soft selling message. The exact same post is used on Facebook but it’s just not enough to stand out, an Instagram timeline is full of imagery whereas Facebook is a mixed bag, making it harder to stand out meaning you need to have a calculated approach when it comes to marketing.

Attracting interaction couldn’t be simpler on Instagram, this is all thanks to #Hashtags and tagging. Yes, Facebook has incorporated the same functionality but using it on Instagram just feels smoother without feeling like a spammer. Starting your own trend, dropping into other people’s feeds, and using up to 30 tags means there’s plenty of opportunity to target an audience equalling a better chance of getting interactions.

With new updates being added regularly you can now post quick snippet videos making video marketing a hot trend. Do you have to be arty? No, but it does help. A video of your products coming off the distribution line can be just as hypnotizing as a cleverly edited clip.

There may be many benefits to Instagram but one of the most notable points is that they listen to their users. Recently they have just rolled out their feed to web users meaning you can use the app through your desktop, a massive result for marketers!

In short:
• Easy to use, both desktop and mobile friendly
• Quick to set up
• Functionality to access your camera and gallery with multichannel sharing available
• Simple to attract users with various tags
• Upload either pictures or short videos

No nonsense advertising Instagram

is a scroll and go kind of app, you don’t even need to click into the picture to give it a like, all you need to do it double tap. With this in mind, as you’re scrolling through your feed you may notice the odd sponsored ad, however they’re a little bit sneaky you may not even notice the image you’re looking at is an ad (the sponsored message in the right hand side corner may give it away!) Their audience targeting is so good that sometimes you don’t spot these adverts because you expect to see that product or mention in your feed anyway.

You can target a customer demographic beyond just your current Instagram followers based on the demographic you choose and with their advertising platform exactly like Facebook (thanks to them purchasing the app) you don’t have to spend time learning the new Advert Manager. Using your Business Manager account on Facebook you can create and track your advert easily, this is ideal if you have a web based agency looking after your accounts because they can track and monitor the success of setting up adverts on Instagram.

In short:
• Your adverts slip in subtly to people’s feeds
• Easy to set up using Facebook Business Manager
• Simple to track

How Instagram will work for your business

Businesses big and small are now using Instagram successfully to advertise their business. The common thought is that this platform is for all things pretty: Fashion, beauty and models. However, you couldn’t be more wrong! From traders to gardeners, you’ll find their businesses on Instagram especially if they have something to sell. Snapping a picture or a video of your product or service allows people to see behind the scenes of a brand, they’re getting an experience that they can’t get whilst browsing your website.

Whether you want to create images from your phone or your happy to take a few snaps and send it over to your marketing team, it only requires a simple thought and a click of a button to start building a new audience for your brand.

The new trend for brands is to create a theme on their Instagram page which means that all their images have the same element whether that’s a white border, the same filter or are all shot from the same angle. This is a great element for businesses to build their brand visually.

In short:
• Suitable for all businesses
• Easy to take photos or to send photos to your marketing department
• Great for visually building your brand

Conclusion

It pays to market your business on Instagram if you want to build your audience, drive your products and keep up to date with the latest social media platform. Using Instagram isn’t time consuming, especially if you have an eCommerce & SEO agency looking after your marketing, so download the app and get on board.
