A remarketing campaign is a type of text, image or video advert offered by google, and can be used across their display network. The ads are designed to ‘follow’ people who have visited your site but have left without purchasing. The ads remarket to the customer the items they browsed in your store. These campaigns are very useful for any company that regularly has customers abandoning baskets. This will remind the customer that they were looking for your product and encourages them to come back and continue shopping.

Did you know that 72% of all shoppers abandon their cart before completing their purchase? This is a huge amount of sales that you would be missing out on. With remarketing 26% of these abandoned carters return and compete their order! Remarketing ads are particularly successful if combined with a dynamic ad, this will show the customer ads specifically displaying the product they were looking at on your site and other products of that will be of interest to them.

There are also the option of adding a promotion to your remarketing ad’s, for example putting a 10% off code into your graphic ads to encourage the customer to come back and finish their purchase with this new discount to make it more enticing.

Another way to use remarketing ads is to encourage customers who have already purchased from your store to shop with you again. Ads showing other products they might be interested in or prompt them to re-purchase an item that runs out, are a good way to keep customers coming back to your store time and time again.

Overall remarketing ads are great for gaining repeat visitors, increasing brand awareness and recovering people who failed to complete a purchase.

We all know that Google ranking can really affect your websites performance, 31% of clicks goes to the first search result and 71% goes to the first page. So how do we get to the first page? This is a highly competitive area and there is a lot google factor in to the search rankings, but we investigate what you need to do to improve your standings.

Your paid ad rank relies on 2 main variables your Quality Score and Ad Bid. Your Quality score is based on a number of things that google ranks. Mainly your ad’s relevance to the keywords, the expected click trough rate of your ad in that search, and your ad’s landing page experience.

To help your search rank you need to focus on getting your site SEO Optimized.

Track your site in google search console or a program like Sem Rush. This will show you how search engines see your site. You will be able to view all of your crawl errors and penalties, allowing you to find and fix them. This will also be vital to tracking your improvements.

Improve your website’s performance and speed. There are many tools online that allow you to analyse the speed for your site. To make your site quicker you need to make it less ‘heavy’ to load. Make sure to compress all images and optimise content. Google will penalise pages they cant get to load.

Make sure your site is dynamic and mobile friendly. Again this is a quality that google favours, and they will actively reduce the score of non-mobile friendly sites.

Google Search Console integration. Having your site linked to Google Webmasters Tools is said to help with your sites indexing. Even if that’s not the case, the tool provides valuable data you can use to optimize your site better.

Make sure you’re ranking for the right keywords. Dont be afraid to get more specific in your keywords. It is easy to think getting more impressions on wider range keywords is better but the higher your bounce rate will be too. You want to show your ads to people who want your product so being more specific will help them find you.

Finally make sure when your ad does come up in the search result that it says the right things, be sure to include your branding and keywords to maximise clicks.

1. Be Specific

– It is true that short generic keywords will get your ad’s seen more, but not necessarily by people looking for your products. Generic search terms make it more likely people will click through the ad mistakenly looking for another brand or without reading the ad fully, this will impact your bounce rate and conversion rates. Being more specific or using long tail keywords will help people find you who are specifically looking for your business and products.

2. Think Like Your Audience

– Consider what terms or phrases would people who want your products be searching for? It’s a great idea to use your own branding terms as these are likely to be less competitive and the people who are searching these are definitely going to be looking for your company/products.

3. Use The Tools Available

– Utilize tools like Adwords Planner or Keyword Everywhere to get ideas for keywords and to see what’s going to work the best for you. These tools will help you figure out the balance of how competitive a keyword is vs how many searches it gets. Ranking for a highly competitive keyword is difficult and usually very expensive, but often bidding on less competitive terms will mean lower search rates.

4. Scope Out the Competition

– Look into what your main competitors are ranking for or targeting. This can not only expand your list of potential keywords, as there may be some you’re overlooking. But most importantly it’ll show you what’s working in the industry at the moment.

5. Understand Match type

– Use the match type keywords to your advantage.
• Broad Match – these will give your ads the most impressions as it will include any word in your phrase, misspelt terms or synonyms of your keywords
• Phrase Match – your ad will show for any search that includes your phrase anywhere in the search
• Exact Match – This will show your Ad only when your exact keyword is used or a very close variant.
• Broad Match Modified – this will show your ad for searches that include all of the phrase but in any order.

Social media is a crucial tool these days to connect with your audience and reach new customers. We all know the value of good social media marketing. But here are some great basic tips for anyone struggling to get their socials off the ground.

1 Less is More with Social Media Marketing

A common mistake is overdoing your social marketing. Don’t overload your page with content, this is a sure way to make people unfollow or unlike. Instead, be consistent about posting daily and make sure the content you do write is quality. This will earn you so much more of a following than if you spam your audience with too many posts they don’t want to see.

2 Know Your Target Audience

Understanding your audience is key, then you will know how to talk to them and what they want to see. Study the data you get from Facebooks metrics to see who your audience is. Try different methods of interacting and different content and see what gets the best results with your specific following.

3 Post for Your Target Audience

Now you understand your audience, focus your content on what they would want to see. Rather than reposting graphics or clickbait content found on the web somewhere, which is what so many pages do. This type of content isn’t personal to your brand and doesn’t represent your business. Your audience won’t engage with this type of content. Find a good balance between promoting products and posting interesting content.

4 Prioritise

If you get more interaction and interest on Facebook than on Twitter for example, then focus on Facebook more. Many people make the mistake of putting more time into a platform that is underperforming. But the main thing is to focus on the places where you are engaging with customers, and then developing this engagement into fans, or purchases, by building a loyal following.

5 DO NOT Buy Likes

We all know how tempting this is! But don’t, this ruins your demographics data, the likes are not from real people but bots, who definitely won’t be interested in your content or products. Your engagement rate will be terrible, as these bots don’t interact, and Facebook has an algorithm that looks at your engagement rates and is less likely to show your post if it’s bad. Instead spend the money on buying ads so that you can reach real people, real people that may just be looking for a page like yours.

6 Promoting a Post

Knowing which posts to promote can be tricky, you can’t choose just any post to boost. Choosing a promotion post of a popular item or a competition for free products is always great, as it not only introduces new people to your brand it gives them an introductory offer on your products. The main things to consider are what would someone seeing this for the first time think about your brand; how do you come across, and will this post appeal to people who have never heard of you.

7 Listen to Feedback

Finally, listen to comments and feedback from followers, see if they have any suggestions for improvements and what’s not working or hear if they are enjoying your content. Interact with customers on social media and build up relationships.

I know were all sick of hearing about it, we’ve seen all of the jokes, complied with all the new rules, but we have to face up to it, even the biggest email lists were affected by GDPR. So how do we start to re-grow email lists with the new rules in place?

The first step is to look at the data and what it means, it’s probably not as bad as you feared.

Then Rethink your marketing strategies. If you lost lots of subscribers it could mean the emails you’ve been sending out recently were not up to scratch. Key questions to investigate – how often you’re sending emails, do you send too often or infrequently? Subscribers want to hear from you but won’t open your emails if you constantly contacting them. Is the content of your emails was worth your subscriber opening? Your subject lines need to be worth opening to the consumer. Think about what your emails offer them and what is going to keep them subscribed in the future, is it amazing offers or creative content? Keep your audience hooked. People have unsubscribed because your content was no longer interesting or relevant to them.

Also think about what you promise subscribers when they sign up. You need to tell people what to expect from your emails and then deliver it. If you get people to sign up by saying ‘receive exclusive offers by being part of our mailing list’ and they don’t receive any offers or promotions they’re going to unsubscribe!
Think about value to customers, and not just using emails as a way to push sales. Emails are a key part of pushing sales, however, you need to keep your customers interested with value and information and they’ll look forward to receiving your next email, but just sell to them and they’ll unsubscribe.
There are a thousand reasons people chose to unsubscribe during GDPR and you need to make sure you learn from this for your email marketing for the future.

Finally losing subscribers can be a good thing, remember its quality over quantity. People who unsubscribed from your emails were not interested in your brand and what you have to offer. Yet the people who chose to stay are going to be more engaged with your content. Your open and click percentages are going to be better for it!

On May 25th, 2018 there will be new EU laws for data protection online, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will ensure that all data protection laws across Europe are standardised and will avoid the confusion of different countries having different regulations.

What will this mean for companies? Primarily how you get someone’s information and what you’re allowed to do with it will be what changes. The main thing to keep in mind is the ‘subscriber rights’ as long as you don’t break any of these you will avoid the up to €10 million in fines!

Subscribers rights you must adhere too:
• Right to be forgotten: An individual may request that an organization delete all data on that individual without undue delay
• Right to object: An individual may prohibit certain data uses
• Right to rectification: Individuals may request that incomplete data be completed or that incorrect data be corrected
• Right of access: Individuals have the right to know what data about them is being processed and how
• Right of portability: Individuals may request that personal data held by one organization be transported to another.

What changes should you make to your site?
You will need to obtain consent from your subscribers and contacts for every usage of their personal data, the surest route to compliance is to obtain explicit consent. All sign up forms on your site must now be opt-in, even at checkouts. On each of these forms to make sure that language in the sign-up confirmation, is specific, and covers all possible reasons for using the information being solicited. Be very specific about the intended use of the information and how you will process it. You must also keep records of the consent given. On your emails, there should be easily accessible “unsubscribe” and “preferences” footer options so your subscribers can change consent as they wish. Finally, you must inform visitors to your page about any cookies you have running.

What should you do with Existing client data?
You must ask people to resubscribe, unless you have proof they did so knowingly and according to GDPR guidelines. Maybe offer an incentive to get people to resubscribe if you can, something like a Discount code or free shipping on an order. Any emails who have not resubscribed by the 25th must be deleted and you must stop contacting them or face a fine of up to €10 million.
